Airbus delivers the first A320neo

The delivery of the first Airbus A320neo to launch customer Lufthansa today is the first step toward a new era in aircraft efficiency.

Equipped with all new technology Pratt & Whitney engines, the A320neo sets a new standard in efficiency, reducing emissions and noise as well as burning 15% less fuel than current generation aircraft.

“We are pleased to be the first airline in the world to take possession of the Airbus A320neo today,” said Carsten Spohr, CEO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG.

The Lufthansa Group, is Airbus’ largest airline customer and operator, and has ordered a total of 116 new A320neo Family aircraft, with 52 of them due to be delivered during 2016.

“Handing over the first A320neo to a long standing Airbus customer, Lufthansa, is a truly great day for everyone at Airbus,” said Fabrice Brégier, Airbus President and CEO. “This occasion marks a new step forward to delivering on our promises and meeting our industry’s goal for sustainable aviation."

The A320neo is the world’s best-selling and most fuel efficient single-aisle aircraft. With almost 4,500 orders received from nearly 80 customers since its launch, the A320neo Family has captured a 60% share of the market against Boeing's competing 737MAX.
